The Regional Cholera Platforms in Africa bring together multi-sectoral partners from different organizations involved in cholera prevention, preparedness, or response in the region.

We work in more than 45 countries across the two regions of Western & Central Africa (24 countries), and Eastern & Southern Africa (21 countries)

What we do?

The Regional Cholera Platforms aim to improve cholera control and prevention across Africa through operationalization of an integrated strategy towards elimination.

Cholera Outbreaks in Central and West Africa : 2018 Regional Update - Week 08

Faits saillants :

RCA : Un cas suspect a été rapporté à la semaine 8 et en cours d’analyse au laboratoire pour confirmation.

R. D. Congo : Deux nouveaux foyers de choléra ont été déclarés dans les régions du Kasai Oriental (voir p. 2) et de Mai Ndombe. On note une légère augmentation des cas au Nord Kivu et à Kinshasa, en relation avec un faible nombre d'activités communautaires.

Libéria : Cinq cas suspects ont été rapportés à la semaine 8. Depuis le début de l’année, 19 cas suspects ont été rapportés dont 17 testés négatifs et deux en cours d’analyse.

Nigéria : Trois cas suspects ont été rapportés à Kaduna à la semaine 7. A Borno, un foyer de choléra vient d’être déclaré (voir p.2).


Central African Republic: One suspected case was reported at week 8, and sent to lab for confirmation.

D. R. Congo: Two new outbreaks were declared in the Kasai Oriental (see p. 2) and Mai Ndombe regions. There is also a slight increase in reported cases in North Kivu and Kinshasa, in relation with the lack of community activities.

Liberia: Five suspected cases were reported at week 8. Since week 1, 19 suspected cases were reported of which 17 were tested negative (no growth of Vibrio Cholerae) and 2 are still pending lab results.

Nigeria: Three suspected cases were reported in Kaduna at week 7. In Borno, a cholera outbreak was declared (see p.2).
